Unfortunately, we just couldn't pull off the poses of the Apostles, but this was our last supper in New York City with Nana and Ernest.
Look at that fabulous salad!

Chicago!
We are so ready to see Chicago... only after drinking our weird pear juice with an aftertaste of cough syrup and eating our free mango yoghurt. Ahhh, New York...
Anyways, Chicago was fabulous, and we got to see the "Mr. Monotony" lady from cast party starring as Velma Kelly!

Girls Day Out
Andrew has gone back to Seattle, so it's just the women. We saw a play called "The Big Knife" and went out to dinner.
Trio Brasileiro House Concert
Hilary's friends from Brazil were in NYC for concerts, including this house (apartment) concert just a few blocks from Edith's apartment. They played Brazilian choro music on guitar, mandolin, and percussion, and were later joined by a great clarinetist.
It was a wonderful concert, but Emma has a problem with tuning out classical guitar music so the majority of it was spent reading her book and eating guacamole.

Shopping with Emily
Chillin' on the subway. Thanks, mom, for the incredibly flattering photo. This is an action shot of us "taking New York".
Just shopping with our friend Emily...
Visiting museums!!! Oh joy! We got to see the most interesting and amazing shoes, dresses, corsets, and outfits of all kinds!

Museum of Arts and Design
Rise and shine, just in time for lunch! Between arriving in NY after midnight, late nights out at Birdland and the theater, jet lag, and the three hour time change, the girls have been catching up by sleeping in. A little change from early morning school days, sport games on weekends, and Sunday school.
We walked to the Museum of Arts and Design. This is the first time any of us had been to the exhibits here.
"Against the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art, Craft, and Design.' Cool chairs:
A wooden bean bag chair (fun and hijinx at your next soiree)
Shoes glorious shoes!
"Playing with Fire: 50 years of Contemporary Glass" A dress made of glass. We heard it took 6 weeks to cool.
"Wear it or not: Recent Jewelry Acquisitions." A new spin on macaroni art:
And other food art:
Textiles meditating:
A 3 D printer:
that produced this jewelry:
Carnegie Hall
After the museum we walked back to the apartment and stopped at Carnegie Hall for some photos. It's too bad the Scholastic Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall conflicts with school. We thought about videotaping Ella's speech right there, but Ella felt more comfortable doing it at Edith's apartment later that day.
New York Public Library for the Performing Arts
On the walk back to the apartment we also stopped at the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts, also known as heaven for music nerds. Stacks and stacks of scores, books, films, and more, as well as rare files and videos of broadway shows in their research floor.

Random Italian Guy
While walking through Little Italy, we experienced something...some guy (late teens, early 20's) called out to us and said, "I need someone to hold my hand! Will you hold my hand?" Ahh, these New Yorkers. Well, we declined. But that is the second time in a week where random guys with funny accents told us funny things! :)
Hilary and Andrew's note: Don't worry, these New York parents and grandmother keep their evil eyes on any and all random New York guys at all times :)

Singing at Birdland!
Guissepe
Ella and Emma just want to say: As happy as we are for him for getting the lead in a Broadway show, we hate him. I mean, he can sing, dance, act, AND flip his hair fabulously. Come on. Leave some of the talent for the rest of us, will you?
Matilda
Ella and Emma saw the musical Matilda, and at the last minute, Andrew and Hilary got tickets to see it as well. It was an incredible production! It was so warm that evening that we walked home from the theater, almost like a summer evening.

The Blog
Hi! This is our blog, "Ella And Emma take New York!" Thanks for reading! Throughout our posts, we'll keep you updated on all of our various activities and sight-seeing! Have fun!
At the Recording Studio
Christine Lavin loved Emma and Ella's singing at Cast Party, and invited the girls to sing harmonies for a song on her album! It is for one song called "Chicken Pot Pie." Pretty cool! They did a great job! (And they even got paid:))
